Car keys and lockouts in Star, done at the car
Keys On Wheels is a mobile locksmith based in Meridian, and Star is on our regular run. What we do most here: spare keys for cars that came with only one, lockouts, new keys when the last one is lost, and fob and smart key programming. Your key is cut and programmed right where the car is parked.
Most makes and models are covered, Ford, Chevrolet, Ram, Jeep, Honda and Hyundai among them. Settling into a new house too? We can rekey it on the same trip.
One key in the house? Fix that first
Plenty of used cars change hands with a single key. While that key still works, adding a second is the simpler job: the locksmith copies its cuts, programs the new key, and tests both. Wait until the only key is lost and it turns into an all keys lost job instead.
Look at what you have before you call. A plain metal blade, a flip key that folds out, a remote-head key with buttons built into the head, or a push-to-start fob. Telling us which one helps us bring the right blank. Our used car guide covers the rest.
How the trip from Meridian goes
Star sits on State Street, which is Highway 44 out here, west of Eagle and north of the Boise River. From Meridian we usually head north on Highway 16 or Linder Road, cross Chinden Boulevard and the river, and pick up State Street into Downtown Star.
Traffic on Chinden and State Street decides the timing, so we don't post one. Call with the address or the nearest cross street, and we'll tell you when we can be there. We answer 24/7.
Where cars get stuck in Star
- Downtown Star along State Street. An errand, keys on the seat, doors locked. Give us the closest cross street.
- River access along the Boise River. Keys tucked in a bag on the bank, or locked in the trunk with the gear. We open trunks too.
- Fuel stops along Highway 16 and State Street. The door swings shut while you pump, with the key still on the seat.
- Driveways on moving day. A key tossed into a box, and nobody remembers which one.
With a child or pet locked inside, especially on a hot or bitterly cold day, dial 911 before anyone else. We come after that.
Before you dial, check these
- The car's year, make and model
- The street, lot or river access where it's parked
- How many working keys are left, and what type
- Your photo ID, along with the registration or title
The price is explained on the phone before we drive out. If the locksmith finds something different at the car, like a worn ignition, you hear the new price before any extra work. We try every key and button before driving off.
